I grew up like many today, believing "a pill for the ill" was the only answer to the unexplained migraines, acne, and digestive issues I experienced in my adolescent and young adult years. Not to insinuate there isn't a time and place for western medication... there most certainly is. I am thankful we have access to those methods when appropriate. However, I wish I knew then what I know now about the long-term effects of medications on the body when overdiagnosed — specifically hormonal imbalance and intestinal permeability (poor gut health) when it came to my own personal health.
For years I struggled with finding answers about why I suffered digestive discomfort when I ate certain foods, why I still had acne as an adult, why I couldn’t get pregnant as easily as others, and why headaches and fatigue were such a constant in my life. It wasn’t until I was introduced to the world of Functional Medicine that my health began to transform. Changing my perspective and discovering the root causes versus placing a band-aid on the physical symptoms was a complete game-changer. I found that modifying certain lifestyle factors -- like nourishing my body properly through food, exercise, stress reduction, adequate sleep, and healthy relationships -- all played a significant role in my overall health. Self-care truly is, and always has been, the best form of healthcare!
After witnessing firsthand how interconnected the mind, body, and spirit are and how much lifestyle truly plays a role in our overall health, I'm inspired to help other women discover the same realization. My health journey ignited the flame and passion I now have for guiding others to optimal health, enjoying the unique qualities of each path. Throughout this journey, I found there is nothing more empowering than being able to take control of your health. Seeking optimal health and fulfillment in our lives is something we all strive for, and becoming the best version of ourselves is the first step!
